Xiao Hong Pao (Small Red Robe)
Our Small Red Robe oolong comes from cuttings of our Big Red Robe, also made under the supervision of the Wuyi Shan Tea Research Institute. It is a third generation descendant of the legendary three Da Hong Pao trees of Wuyi Shan, Fujian Province, grown on protected cliffs under the best conditions. Like any little brother, it has a feistiness and determination all its own.
Xiao Hong Pao can be stored for 1-2 years in a dry, air- and light-tight container. Xiao Hong Pao has a roasty floral and fruity taste with an underlying spiciness and a smooth and sweet finish.
Brewing tips: oolongs can be brewed in a gaiwan or in a Yixing teapot. Preheat vessel and cups with hot water (we recommend 170-190°F). Fill 1/3 to 1/2 of the volume with tea and add water and push off the bubbles with the lid as you cover and pour out this wash. Add more water, cover and infuse for 15-20 seconds, depending on taste. Pour tea into preheated cups and serve. Infusion can be repeated six or more times, increasing the infusion time as necessary.
